Republic of Liberia-West Africa

The Republic of Liberia is a state on the Atlantic coast of West Africa. It borders Sierra Leone, Guinea, and the Ivory Coast. Liberia was among the only two states in Africa, along with Ethiopia, that were not colonized at the time of imperialism in the 19th century. From 1989 to 2003, Liberia gained sad notoriety for a fierce civil war.  Liberia is located in southwestern West Africa on the Atlantic coast. It borders Sierra Leone to the northwest, Guinea to the north and northeast, and the Ivory Coast to the east. 

The Republic of Liberia, which has existed since 1847, is the second oldest independent state in Africa (after Ethiopia). The content of Liberia's first constitution was discussed and agreed upon as early as January 5, 1839, with the main representatives of the American Colonization Society. The textual form referred to the new polity as the Presidential Republic of the Commonwealth of Liberia. In 1984, a new constitution was adopted by popular vote, which, like the previous one, closely follows the U.S. model. Legislative power is vested in Parliament. Parliament consists of two chambers (following the American model).
