Tribute To Actor Marion Robert Morrison aka John Wayne (* 26 May 1907 in Winterset, Iowa; † 11 June 1979 in Los Angeles, California; born Marion Robert Morrison, later renamed Marion Mitchell Morrison), known as Duke, was an American film actor.

He was among the most influential, successful and highest-paid Hollywood actors of his time. Throughout his 50-year career, Wayne starred in Western films. Wayne won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for The Marshal (1969). As an actor and private citizen, he embodied the traditional values of the pioneer era and became a larger-than-life figure in American film history.

He was best known in the US by the nickname "Duke", after a dog he owned as a child. Like hardly any other actor, he is identified by the audience with a clearly defined character type, but also played complex character roles from time to time. In his films he developed the role of the rough-around-the-edges authority figure, appearing for example as a sheriff or a commanding officer, characterised by experience, toughness and tenacity. Even when he is under someone else's command, as in The Black Hawk, he is always the one who shapes events and only accepts orders as long as they do not run counter to his own intentions.
