Stand-up paddling (SUP) or stand-up paddling is a water sport in which an athlete stands upright on a buoyant board (stand-up paddle board or stand-up paddle board) and paddles with a stand-up paddle.
Stand-up paddling can be traced to several origins. In particular, one-man bamboo rafts are still in use in Asia, using paddles as well as poles while standing. On the other hand, in the 20th century, surfing instructors in Hawaii used stand-up paddling as a comfortable way to get from shore to wave-breaking reefs and back faster by using a paddle with their surf boards. The paddle should be about one blade length longer than the paddler's height. Distance Stand Up Paddling (Race) often uses slightly longer paddles. This allows for longer and more powerful pulls, and therefore a higher final speed on the course. The size of the paddle blade can also be varied to obtain different riding characteristics.
