Product information "Libra Baby Zodiac"
Libra is a constellation of the ecliptic. Libra is a constellation between Scorpius (Scorpio) and Virgo (Virgo). Two of its stars are brighter than 3rd magnitude. Libra lies on the ecliptic so that the Sun, Moon and planets pass through it. Thus, it belongs to the zodiacal signs. However, due to the precessional motion of the Earth's axis, the timing of the Sun's passage has changed since ancient times, which is why the zodiacal sign Libra no longer corresponds to the constellation Libra today. The sun is currently in Libra from October 31 to November 23. Libra belongs to the classical 48 constellations of antiquity described by Claudius Ptolemy.

Already with the Sumerians the constellation was called "Libra" (Giš-rin), perhaps because the sun stood there 4000 years ago at the time of the equinoxes, perhaps also because at this time of the year the taxes were collected. The tax collectors weighed the amounts of grain due with beam scales. For the Babylonians and ancient Greeks, on the other hand, the stars were attributed to the scorpion and represented its claws. Therefore the constellation was called "Chelai" (the claws) by the Greeks.

The Arab astronomers also saw in the constellation a part of the Scorpion. The stars β and γ formed the northern scissors, the stars α, υ and σ the southern scissors of the scorpion. The present name Libra was introduced by the Romans around 100 AD. For them, the constellation represented the symbol of justice. The "southern scissors" were not assigned to Libra until 1930, when the International Astronomical Union (IAU) defined the constellation boundaries. The star σ Librae was previously called γ Scorpii.
