Gemini Baby Zodiac

The Twins (Latin Gemini) are a constellation of the ecliptic. The Gemini form an elongated rectangle. The conspicuously bright stars Castor (Kastor) and Pollux form the two northeastern corners. The western part of the twins is crossed by the band of the Milky Way, therefore several open star clusters can be found in this area. From about end of August the twins can be found in the northeastern morning sky. In the winter of the northern hemisphere it is high in the south and can be seen completely in the evening sky for the last time in May. Since Gemini lies on the ecliptic, the Sun, Moon, and planets pass through the constellation. The sun currently passes through Gemini from June 21 to July 21. Based on today's constellation boundaries, the summer equinox was in this constellation from 15 BC to October 19, 1989 AD.

Gemini is one of the 48 constellations of ancient astronomy, already described by Claudius Ptolemy. The constellation is the origin of the zodiac sign Gemini. However, due to the precessional motion of the Earth's axis, the passage of the Sun has shifted compared to ancient times. In 1930, the dwarf planet Pluto was discovered during the evaluation of photographic plates in Gemini.

In the Greek mythology Kastor and Polydeukes (lat. Pollux) were inseparable twin brothers. Their mother, Leda, conceived Castor from her husband, King Tyndareos of Sparta, and Polydeukes from Zeus, who approached her in the form of a swan. Therefore, Castor was human and mortal, while Polydeukes was of divine origin and immortal. The brothers joined Iason and the Argonauts in their search for the golden fleece and had numerous adventures. From a quarrel with their companions, the twin brothers Lynceus and Idas, Pollux emerged as the sole survivor. He turned to his divine father and asked him to share his own immortality with Kastor. From then on, the brothers spent their days alternately in Hades or on Olympus. They were also immortalized as a constellation in the sky. The Arabs saw in the constellation a lying lion.
