Female And Male Symbols

Biological gender is a common classification in the science of biology of individual living things according to the production of germ cells during sexual or gender reproduction. In sexual reproduction with gametes of unequal size (anisogamy), the individuals producing the larger gametes are called female, and those producing the smaller gametes are called male. Thus, the definition of sex is based on the germ cells, not the individuals.

In eukaryotes, sexual reproduction is nearly universal, but the division of germ cells (if any are formed) between two types or classes of individuals is not. In those species and individuals in which there are male and female individuals, differentiation even of the somatic cells not used for reproduction, including tissues and organs formed from them if necessary, is also not universal. If male and female individuals, even apart from the gonads and reproductive organs themselves, are distinguishable on the basis of unique characteristics, this is called sexual dimorphism.
