Farm Animal Chicken

The domestic fowl (Gallus gallus domesticus), also called chicken (from Middle High German huon), is a breeding form of the Bankiva chicken, a wild chicken from Southeast Asia, and belongs to the pheasant family (Phasianidae). Agriculturally, they belong to the poultry family. The male domestic chicken is called cock or rooster, a little older also poulard and the castrated cock capon. The female is called hen, from the 2nd month of life until full laying maturity is reached pullet, young leading hens are called mother hen. The young animals are generally called chicks.

The primeval chickens are relatively small compared to the common domestic chicken breeds and strikes, with a maximum weight of 1.5 kg of the cocks and 1.0 kg of the hens. There is a wide variation in size and weight among domestic chickens. The smallest bantams (serama) sometimes grow to 250 g, the size of a small pigeon. The largest chickens (mostly hybrids), on the other hand, can weigh over 10 kg, comparable to a turkey.[3] The largest chickens, the Brazilian giant chickens (Galo gigante), often grow to over 100 cm.
